A survey was conducted with 1,266 participants in April 2008. Parents were to select from a list of choices which item they find most offensive in a video game.

These were the response:

man and woman having sex - 37%

two men kissing - 27%

graphically severed head - 25%

multiple use of the F-word - 9%

A second survey took place in August 2008 and 1,600 parents participated on what they would be most concerned about their 17-year old child doing at a sleepover.

smoking marijuana - 49%

playing video game Grand Theft Auto - 19%

watching pornography - 16%

drinking beer - 14%

Here are some of the Comments from respondents:

“this is nothing more than just parents forcing their assumptions of a near-futured failure in their children because of video games, when really it is the fault of the parents for not at least talking to their kids about the content of such games and telling them why and why noy you shouldn’t do such things. I’m 16 and I’ve played more violent games than a little, yet am I in jail? Do I do drugs? Am I a killer? Hardly.”

“Where’s your moral standards? Just as we have lost God in our schools, He seems to be missing from our homes too. Would you rent an x-rated movie/video for your teenage/under-aged kids? My girlfriend’s 14 year old grandson just tried to commit suicide with an overdose of some prescription drug! Parents…take responsibility. You gave birth to them, now raise them!!”

Hello, I’d like to start off by pointing out that I am a 16 year old. I am an avid gamer as well. And also, I’d like to point out that you, Casim, had a very good point. Actually, you had several. Basically, it all boils down to what you are teaching your children, how well you discipline them and how well you monitor them. Now, I’d like to point out something to all you parents who have been burying their heads in the sand that no matter what they do, if said child is determined to view/play that crap, they will. If they want to smoke marijuana and kill all thier brain cells they will and if they wanna drink until they get wasted - they will. IF you have not taught them morals. You know, right from wrong. REMEMBER THAT? Some parents just aren’t as concerned as others and other teens, unlike myself, just don’t give a damn. My parents brought me up right. I’ve seen the damage drugs and liquor can do first hand though my friends and other family memebers. And while I do like the gory and violent stuff you see in some games, I’m no serial killer, so no harm done. Then again, some children are more easily influenced…. As for the whole in-game sex thing, Casim is right - CHECK THE RATING BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!! It’s ridiculous for you to be blaming the game you bought for the child! Ok, I have to admit that some teens just go out and do what they really want to do sometimes, even IF their parents HAD tried to instill some values and morals. It’s a two-way thing. It’s not just teaching them right from wrong, its following the process up as well. Be a parent and pay more attention to what they’re doing. We may hate it now, but we’ll thank you later”.

And this is what pisses me off. Parents “CLAIM” they don’t want their kids dealing with this crap in video games. Then why do they go out and buy their little kiddies these games? Bunch of idiotic half-brained (well maybe no-brained) parents (if you can even call them that)”.

I was talking to a friend of mine this week about young parents making plans to migrate to another country while they have school-going children. One thing lead to another. We started discussing about the declined in social vaues in children nowadays that we have observed daily when we are out and about in town.

My friend, Esther shared an interesting observation of hers with me. She is a recent retiree (old school) and would usually meet up with her old classmates and friends once a month at a classy hotel to have Hi-Tea get-together. She was pretty annoyed in this particular Hi-Tea gathering she had with her friends.

As usual, they ordered their Hi-Teas and sat down to sip their afternoon tea and enjoy a quiet social exchange and ‘catch-up’ between each other.

Suddenly, there were two young children running around the table next to Esther, as their mum was sitting next to theirs. These young children were running around their table as well as around the hall. They were also running up and down the short wooden staircase leading to a platform. Their foot steps created ongoing loud thumps everyone can hear in the hall. These children’s mum was oblivious to their behavior.

The ‘mum’ continued to enjoy her tea while her children were left running around the hall making noises.

Esther was a person who has been raised in the old school. In the old school, kids are taught to behave themselves while in public venues and functions. Old-schooled kids are taught ‘manners’, to acknowledge older adults as ‘Uncles’ or ‘Aunties’, to say ‘Thank you’, to be polite, to share, to be quiet when having a meal and not to ‘poke’ or ‘pick’ at your food.

These old-schooled ‘manners’ or ’social values’ are usually taught by mothers at home. Fathers have another role to play those days. Fathers were meant to ‘bring home the bacon’. How these kids behaved at home would be seen as a reflection of how kids may behave in public.

Nowadays, we see young parents having fewer children. They do not instill ‘good manners’ or ’social values’ taught in old-school to their children any longer. We found children running around in shopping malls. These kids tend to talk back and speak rudely to their parents. These children no longer greet elders. They are left to do whatever they fancy and go wherever they want to. Generally, children can get away with almost anything these days.

I know I am a culprit in this too. I tend to spoil my youngest to bits. But I always have a rule. I teach my child how to behave in front of elders, teachers and in friend’s homes. Always minding their P’s and Q’s.

Should parents let their children do whatever they want?

Should parents leave the teaching of ‘social values’ to the school because they are busy with their career, business or active lifestyle?

Or should young parents leave the learning of ‘manners’ to their caregivers like foreign maids?

As young parents, what do you have to say on this?

A Dengue Fever remedy with papaya leaves juice.

I would like to share this interesting discovery from a schoolmate’s son who
had just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the
critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet count dropped to 15 after
15 liters of blood transfusion.

His father was so worried that he sought another friend’s advice and his son
was saved. He confessed to me that he give his son raw juice of papaya
leaves.

From a pallet count of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice, his pallet count jumped instantly to 135. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. He asked me to share this good news with friends and family.

According to the recipe, it is raw papaya leaves, 2 pieces just cleaned, pounded and squeezed with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf. So
two tablespoons per serving once a day.

Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will lose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap.. It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like ‘Wong Low Kat’. But it works.

There is this other friend of mine who had dengue last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water started to fill up her lungs. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor said there’s no cure for dengue.

We just had to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusions and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day
she was admitted.

Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce
the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out
for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever
subsided.

We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after 3 days!!! Amazing but it’s true. I found that it’s also beneficial when one is having a sore throat.

Please share this around as lately there are many dengue cases.
It’s great if such natural cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue fever
patients. Furthermore it’s so easily available. Blend the papaya leaves and squeeze the juice! It’s simple and miraculously effective!!

This is an article on alternatives methods to how to prevent cancer. It is some thing to watch out for and to start with our dietary changes immediately.

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.

3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tambours.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver,
kidneys, heart, lungs and so on.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

D. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meats remaining in the intestines become petrified and lead to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Florescence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

A friend of mine shared these laws of reality check that are funny, realistic and makes a lot of sense to me. So I thought of sharing the story with you here.

The Law of Mechanical Repair
After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you’ll have to pee.

The Law of Gravity
Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

The Law of Probability
The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

The Law of Random Numbers
If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal and someone always answers.

The Law of the Alibi
If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the very next morning you will have a flat tire.

The Variation Law
If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now (works every time).

The Law of the Bath
When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

The Law of Close Encounters
The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don’t want to be seen with.

The Law of the Result
When you try to prove to someone that a machine won’t work, it will.

The Law of Biomechanics
The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

The Law of the Theater
At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.

The Starbucks Law
As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

The Murphy’s Law of Lockers
If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

The Law of Physical Surfaces
The chances of an open-faced jelly sandwich landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug!

The Law of Logical Argument
Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.

The Brown’s Law of Physical Appearance
If the shoe fits, it’s ugly.

The Oliver’s Law of Public Speaking
A closed mouth gathers no feet.

The Wilson’s Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy
As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

The Doctors’ Law
If you don’t feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you’ll feel better. Don’t make an appointment and you’ll stay sick.

The Good Food Law
The better something tastes, the greater the probability that it is bad for you.
